The Association of Camerados is launching a very exciting new partnership with some of the biggest housing associations in the UK to work in their neighbourhoods alongside local people and create 100 public living rooms in 100 places over the next two years. This initiative is supported by Fusion 21 (find out more )and is also open to other housing associations in their network. SNG – Sovereign Network Group , Clarion Housing Group and Peabody are big supporters of the Camerados movement, believing as we do, that housing needs community and without it the scourge of isolation – and also polarisation – causes damage and suffering. Something as simple as a bit of company in a no-agenda space can totally alter the course of somebody’s day and make a tough time survivable.
Last week, we celebrated the start of this wonderful partnership with Public Living Rooms in neighbourhoods across Hackney, Bow and Dalston in East London. The day was full of joy. There were epic battles of Connect 4, cups of tea, sandwiches, dancing, singing from a local resident, and lots of neighbours dropping in and enjoying being together.
We’re so excited to see where this takes the movement, and it’s hugely inspiring to meet the teams from these organisations and see the incredible grassroots community work they already do. We hope to learn from them as much as possible and add value to their work, which involves hundreds of thousands of homes across the country.
